Windows XP (View Video Tutorial)

  • 1. To get started, turn on your laptop running Windows XP and right mouse click on the wireless network icon in the system tray. The system tray is located at the bottom right hand corner of your screen.

  • 2. A menu will appear, listing several options. Please choose "View available Wireless Networks" This will open a new window listing all available WiFi networks.

  • 3.If you are in an Optimum WiFi hotspot you will see an entry in the list called "optimumwifi". This is called the SSID or Network name. Click once on the network name and then choose the "Connect" button at the bottom of the same window. If the network name is not 'optimumwifi' this is not an Optimum WiFi network and you should not attempt to connect.

  • 4. If you don't see the network name "optimumwifi" listed, there are two possibilities. Either you are not currently in a hotspot or you are outside of the signal area. Please consult our map to determine your nearest hotspot. If you are sure you are already at a hotspot, you can try moving closer to the center of the WiFi signal. Again, the map should be able to help you find exactly where the wireless access point is located. When you are close enough, the network name will appear in the list of available networks and you can follow the steps above to connect. Remember, the more green bars you see in the signal listWiFi Status the stronger the signal will be and the faster your connection will be.
